At the SDG7 Pavilion at COP26 in Glasgow, Husk Power put forward an ambitious 7-point agenda for scaling the rural clean energy economy of Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. In total, Husk Power announced 7 corporate targets to be achieved by 2030 (see summary visual attached):
- Building at least 5,000 renewable energy minigrids, with Nigeria a key focus
- Connecting at least 1 million customers
- Benefitting at least 11 people people with productive, modern levels of power
- Providing power to at least half a million (500,000) small businesses, including in the agricultural value chain
- Installing at least 500MW of rural commercial & industrial (C&I)
- Selling at least 5 million energy efficient appliances
- Displacing 7Mt of CO2
Speaking at the official side event of the SDG7 Pavilion, Husk Power's CEO Manoj Sinha said: “As rural electrification in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia rises to the forefront of international development and climate equity, it is critical that the private sector is ready to meet the opportunity by having a robust pipeline of bankable, shovel-ready projects, and the ability to execute at scale. We not only want to challenge ourselves to achieve greater scale, but also to raise the level of ambition of government, finance and industry stakeholders.”
