Morocco at Forefront of High Fuel Prices Among Arab Countries
Rabat - With a MAD 17.78 ($1.75) per liter gasoline cost and a MAD 16.57 ($1.67) per liter diesel cost, Morocco ranks second in terms of average gasoline prices and first in terms of high diesel prices among Arab countries, according to the Global Petrol Prices platform’s Benchmark.
These price differences, explained the Global Petrol Prices, “are because of various taxes and subsidies” on gasoline and diesel, highlighting that “all countries have access to the same prices on international markets, but they impose different taxes.”
In terms of high gasoline prices, Morocco ranks second with an average price of MAD 17.78 ($1.75), behind Jordan, where 1 liter of gasoline costs MAD 18.01 ($1.77).
Lebanon places third with MAD 13.11 ($1.29), ahead of Sudan (MAD 13.06) ($1.28), Tunisia (MAD 7.80) (0.77), and Oman and Saudi Arabia (MAD 6.39) ($0.63).
Qatar is next (MAD 5.94) ($0.58), followed by Egypt (MAD 5.85) ($0.58), Bahrain (MAD 5.46) ($0.54), Iraq (MAD 5.29) ($0.52), Kuwait (MAD 3.51) ($0.35), Algeria (DH 3.24) ($0.32), Syria (MAD 2.94) ($0.29) and Libya (MAD 0.55) ($0.05).
For diesel prices, Morocco ranks first, with an average price of MAD 16.57 ($1.67) per liter, ahead of Lebanon (MAD 14.13) ($1.39), Sudan (MAD 12.47) ($1.23), Jordan (MAD 10.46) ($1.03), and Oman (MAD 6.9) ($0.68).
Then come Tunisia (MAD 6.73) ($0.66), Qatar (MAD 5.79) ($0.57), Bahrain (MAD 4.91) ($0.48), Egypt (MAD 3.94) ($0.39), Kuwait (MAD 3.85) ($0.38), Algeria (MAD 2.04) ($0.20), Saudi Arabia (MAD 1.72) ($0.17), Syria (MAD 1.33) ($0.13) and Libya (MAD 0.31) ($0.03).
Internationally, Hong Kong, Iceland, Israel, Norway, and Finland are the five nations with the highest gasoline prices, with prices ranging from MAD 30.95 ($3.04) to MAD 24.18 ($2.38).
On the other hand, Algeria, Syria, Iran, Libya, and Venezuela rank as the nations with the lowest cost of this fuel.
