Kenya’s H1 Tea Export Earnings Jump to KSh 69 Billion
Earnings from the export of black tea increased by 22% in the first half of 2020 compared to a similar period in 2019. The earnings reached KSh 68.9 Billion from KSh56.5 Billion posted in the first half of 2019.
The huge increase in earning is attributed to increased output of tea in the first six months of 2020 which jumped by 41% compared to last year’s output.
Data from the Kenya Bureau of Statistics shows that the volume of tea exports from January and June hit 300.5 Million kilograms from 235.5 Million kilograms in the same period in 2019.
Kenya is the world’s leading producer and exporter of black tea. Tea export earnings contribute a significant portion of the country’s foreign income.
