South African Airways is set to re-launch flights to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on January 20th.

Dar es Salaam is one of several African routes that the South African flag carrier has been reviving and expanding.

The airline, which last operated flights to Dar es Salaam five years ago, is set to resume daily flights to Tanzania’s commercial capital, Dar es Salaam.

After posting its first profit since 2012 last year, it is now looking to expand its operations.

The resumption of flights to Dar es Salaam is part of the airline’s five-year plan, which focuses on regional expansion.

According to the airline’s interim CEO John Mamola, the move is strategically important.

With significant South African investments in Tanzania, the decision is expected to create more opportunities for trade between the two countries.

The resumption of flights comes on the back of Air Tanzania resuming flights to South Africa in November last year after a five-year hiatus.

Air Tanzania says flights to South Africa were suspended in 2019 due to legal challenges that led to the impounding of one of Tanzania’s aircraft in Johannesburg.

It further states that the resumption of flights aligns with its broader expansion goals.
