February 28, 2024 - Ethiopia and Norway signed a 75 million USD climate partnership agreement for certified emission reductions of the forestry sector in Ethiopia.

The new partnership agreement extends Norway’s support to forest management, protection, and restoration of degraded landscapes up to 2030. This funding will enable Ethiopia to continue investing in the management and conservation of our standing forests and the restoration of our degraded landscapes.

During the signing ceremony, H.E. Ato Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, requested his Norwegian counterpart to expand support to Ethiopia’s effort to comply with the European Deforestation Regulation, which significantly impacts our strategic export commodity, Coffee. Moreover, he affirmed that Ethiopia remains committed to building a climate-resilient and carbon-neutral economy. 
 
The two countries have engaged in bilateral cooperation since 1995 on multiple areas of common interest ranging from peace and security, climate change, and migration management, to sustainable development, gender equality, education, and, increasingly, private sector promotion and development.
 
The Finance Minister of Ethiopia H.E Ato Ahmed Shide and Norway’s Climate and Environment Minister, Honorable Mr. Andreas signed the new partnership agreement.
