Absa Kenya Appoints Charles Njenga as Non-Executive Director

Absa Bank Kenya has appointed Charles Njenga Murito as an independent non-executive director with effect from 24th June 2020. Charles is the Government Affairs and Public Policy Director for Sub-Saharan Africa at Google.

He is young and well experienced in content, digital, and technology. Charles previously served as Google’s Country Director for Kenya for six years.

In a statement to the press, Absa Bank Chairman Charles Muchene said, “Charles brings to the board his notable passion for the customer as well as his extensive knowledge and experience in the areas of technology, innovation, and data, all of which are key elements of the bank’s growth strategy.”

He joins the board at a time when the Bank has just completed a three-year separation and rebranding exercise from its former parent company Barclays Bank UK. The lender is now focused on implementing new technology to provide better services to its customers.

Speaking at a past event, Jeremy Awori, CEO at Absa Kenya said, “We are making significant investments in technology, branch modernization, and branding, which will ultimately enable us to give our customers better banking experience.”
